Competitions & Assignments

As a club, the HPS runs regular competitions, plus assignments relating to particular subjects, normally following tutorials - we are a collective of photographers, so our aim is to encourage members to take photographs between meetings and to share their work with others!

2016

Donna Nook- Seals

19th November- Meet at the car park on the beach at 11:00.

2014

'Wildlife' Outing, Hartsholme Park, Lincoln

The assignment returns can be found here - members were to try and get the best 'Wildlife' picture from the meet, although it was noted that the local wildlife had mostly been scared away by dogs and people (!!)

Our 2013 competition and assignment themes were as follows:

Food, glorious food!

Brief: To produce a photograph or set of photographs which portray food - your contribution may be still life, a mouth-watering recipe book style image, or a set of photographs portraying the decay or decline of a food or group of foods - be creative!

Panoramic

Brief: To produce a photograph or set of photographs which portray a field of view that is much more elongated than the photographical aspect we are accustomed to. Typically landscapes and cityscapes, panoramic photographs often allow the viewer to gain a greater sense of perspective on a subject... So get thinking - what will your panoramic shots feature?

High contrast

Brief: To produce a photograph or set of photographs which conform to the rules of high contrast photography - A high-contrast scene or photograph normally (but not exclusively) consists of white and black with few or no middle gray tones. A black subject set against a light background is an example of a high-contrast scene, although the image may feature elements that are very light or white, some that are very dark or black, and many tones or colors that reproduce as various tones of gray.

Precious things

Brief: To produce a photograph or set of photographs which portray items that are precious to people, or perhaps even the photographer specifically. The brief is deliberately open, and we expect some interesting interpretations of what people find precious!

Emotion

Brief: To produce a photograph or set of photographs which conjure thoughts of emotion, which could be a characterisation of joy, anger, love, hate, horror, etc. Get creative and dramatic - show us your emotional side!

Guilty Pleasures

Brief: To produce a photograph or set of photographs which represent guilty pleasures, which we define as something we feel guilty about but continue doing anyway, since we enjoy it! What is your guilty pleasure, and how will you illustrate it (or them!) in photographic terms?
